“Every experience is a valuable investment for the future. Every brave step shapes a brave VNUK student.”
Pham Gia Khanh – First challenge, big lesson at Radisson Hotel in Da Nang
As a first-year student of International Business and Management (IBM) at VNUK, Pham Gia Khanh made a different choice right in his first internship: choosing F&B at Radisson Hotel Danang, a field not in his major.
“Khanh thought he should gain more experience… this is both a new challenge and a valuable opportunity to learn.” – This spirit opened up a meaningful two-month journey.

Soft skills are ‘upgraded’ instantly
Not only serving at the buffet area, this internship has become a practical soft skills training course for Khanh:
- Breakthrough in English Communication: Despite having a good foundation, working continuously with international guests has pushed Khanh’s communication ability to a new level. “I have to admit that after the internship, every time Khanh needed to use English… Khanh could speak longer, the sentences were more complex and smoother.”
- “Experience” endurance: The 5-star environment requiring high speed and professionalism made Khanh “overwhelmed” at first. However, instead of being discouraged, Khanh learned to listen to his colleagues, accept their comments and turn them into motivation to improve the speed and meticulousness in service.
Lessons beyond the classroom
The F&B internship provided IBM students with unique perspectives on management and operations:
- Understanding Teamwork: “The feeling of working in a team with older, more experienced colleagues is completely different.” Khanh learned how to observe, adapt to the pace of teammates and recognize the meticulousness and efficiency of professional coordination.
- Service mindset and respect: Standing in the perspective of a waiter changed Khanh’s personal behavior. Khanh realized the work that employees have to do in both the morning and evening shifts, thereby knowing how to say “thank you” more and proactively clean the table before leaving the restaurant.
Advice from predecessors
Summarizing his experience, Pham Gia Khanh believes that doing an internship in the first year is an experience to challenge and develop himself:
“I think doing an internship in the first year is very meaningful… it is an opportunity worth learning. The important thing is that you learn how to work in a team, how to endure and gain more experience that is not easy to get.”
VNUK believes that the soft skills honed at Radisson Hotel will become an invaluable competitive advantage, helping Nguyen Khanh firmly step on the path of International Management and Business.
