As part of VNUK Mental Health Week 2026, nearly 40 high school students and VNUK students participated in the “When Empathy Speaks” programme at The Hangart. The event created a meaningful space where participants could connect and explore the values of empathy, creativity, and perseverance.
Rather than following the format of a traditional classroom lesson, the programme featured a variety of interactive activities that encouraged young people to observe, listen, and connect with one another through practical experiences.
Connecting Through Sign Language
A key highlight of the programme was the sign language workshop led by deaf teachers. Through learning different hand signs, participants were introduced to a new form of communication and gained a deeper understanding of the many ways people can connect with one another.

The activity not only helped students learn basic signs for everyday communication but also encouraged patience, careful observation, and respect for individual differences.
At the VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education – The University of Danang (VNUK), language ability is not only reflected in the use of international languages. It is also demonstrated through a willingness to listen, understand, and connect with others. The workshop conveyed the meaningful message that genuine connection does not always require spoken words.
Using Creativity to Promote Empathy
In addition to the sign language workshop, participants had the opportunity to design their own pin badges. Each product became a creative “puzzle piece” that reflected the thoughts, emotions, and personal messages of its designer.
Through the process of learning and creating together, high school and university students contributed to an open and inclusive environment where differences were respected and every participant had the opportunity to express themselves.
Experiencing a Day as a VNUK Student
The programme also offered high school students an opportunity to experience a day in the life of a VNUK student. With support from current VNUK students, participants were able to learn more about the Institute’s academic environment, extracurricular activities, and student community.

The experience not only created memorable moments but also encouraged each participant to discover their own “puzzle piece” on the journey towards greater self-awareness, confidence, and social responsibility.
VNUK would like to express its sincere appreciation to the participating high school students, university students, teachers, and everyone who contributed to the programme. The warm and meaningful moments shared at The Hangart helped spread important messages about empathy, human connection, and mental well-being among young people.
Readers are invited to look back at the memorable moments from the “When Empathy Speaks” programme, organised as part of VNUK Mental Health Week 2026.
