The learning and cultural experience journey of the Kulturstudier students from Norway in Vietnam officially began with their first Field Trip to Son Tra Peninsula – one of Da Nang’s areas of outstanding natural beauty and biodiversity.
More than just an exploratory trip, the Field Trip to Son Tra gave students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and gain first-hand insights into nature, local ecosystems, and biodiversity conservation efforts in the area.
EXPLORING SON TRA’S ECOSYSTEM WITH GREENVIET
During the trip, the Kulturstudier students were accompanied and guided by GreenViet, an organization working in nature research and conservation in Da Nang.
Through informative sharing and hands-on activities, students had the opportunity to learn about Son Tra’s natural environment, the ecosystems found in the area, and the diversity of local flora and fauna.
Rather than simply observing nature from a distance, students were able to explore Son Tra’s landscape firsthand and learn more about the relationship between ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation efforts. These real-world experiences helped make what they learned more tangible and accessible, while offering a different perspective on how people interact with and protect the natural environment.
MEETING SON TRA’S SPECIAL “RESIDENTS”
One of the most memorable moments of the Field Trip was the opportunity for students to observe the red-shanked douc langur – a rare and protected primate species.
Known for its distinctive appearance and its natural habitat in Son Tra, the red-shanked douc langur is one of the remarkable symbols of the peninsula’s ecosystem.
Encountering these special “residents” in their natural surroundings not only brought excitement to the students but also helped them gain a deeper appreciation of the importance of protecting wildlife and preserving their natural habitats.
LEARNING THROUGH REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCES
For international students, Field Trips like this are an important part of their learning journey in Vietnam. Each destination offers not only new experiences but also opportunities to connect classroom knowledge with local life, culture, and the natural environment.
At Son Tra, the Kulturstudier students had the chance to discover an important part of Da Nang’s natural heritage while gaining a better understanding of the values that need to be preserved behind a destination familiar to both local residents and visitors.
The first Field Trip marked the beginning of Kulturstudier’s 8-week learning and experience journey at VNUK. In the weeks ahead, the students will continue attending classes, taking part in experiential activities, connecting with VNUK students, and exploring more destinations across Da Nang and Central Vietnam.
A new semester has just begun, and there are still many exciting experiences waiting for the Kulturstudier students throughout their journey at VNUK.
