Workshop “The Power of Culture in Organisations”: Why Organisational Culture Matters More Than Ever

Organisational Culture – The Key Factor Behind Employee Retention in the Modern Workplace

“A company may offer the same salary, but culture determines how long people choose to stay.”

In today’s increasingly competitive job market, salary is no longer the only factor influencing employees’ decisions to stay with a company. Instead, organizational culture has become one of the most important elements shaping workplace experience, professional growth, and long-term employee engagement.

To provide students with more practical insights into this topic, students of the Organizational Behavior course at Vietnam-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK) recently participated in the workshop “The Power of Culture in Organizations” featuring Ms. Pham Thi Minh Thuy, General Director of Mixel Vietnam, a U.S.-based semiconductor design company headquartered in Silicon Valley.

Real-World Perspectives on Organisational Culture from Global Businesses

More than just a theoretical lecture, the workshop offered students valuable real-world stories about how international companies build strong workplace cultures, develop talent, and retain employees in the digital era.

Through case studies from companies such as Google and Netflix, as well as Mixel Vietnam’s own team-building journey, students gained a deeper understanding that

    • Organizational culture is not defined by slogans displayed on office walls.
    • Culture is reflected in how people communicate, collaborate, and treat one another every day.
    • A positive working environment can create sustainable motivation and growth opportunities for young professionals.

The speaker’s insights also allowed students to better understand the realities of operating within global businesses, particularly in the fields of technology and innovation.

VNUK Students Took on the Role of Startup Founders

One of the workshop’s highlights was a group activity in which students designed the organizational culture for a hypothetical AI startup.

During the activity, students worked together as startup founders to discuss and develop:

    • Core company values
    • Leadership and working styles
    • Talent recruitment and retention strategies
    • An ideal workplace environment for younger generations

The activity not only encouraged interaction and creativity but also helped students strengthen their critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a business-oriented environment.

VNUK Connects Academic Learning with Real Business Experiences

At VNUK, workshops, guest speaker sessions, and practical business projects are integrated into the curriculum to help students develop not only professional knowledge but also a deeper understanding of people and organizations.

    VNUK believes that:

“Business education is not only about learning how to operate a business but also about understanding the people within it.”

Through industry-connected activities such as “The Power of Culture in Organizations” workshop, students are given more opportunities to experience real workplace perspectives, enhance professional competencies, and prepare for the global job market.
