VNUK Lecturer Secures “Double Win” with National and City-Level Scientific Research Projects

The Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), The University of Danang, continues to affirm its position on the national research map with an impressive series of achievements from lecturers of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering. MSc. Nguyen Van Tho – a veteran educator and scientist at VNUK – has been excellently approved to lead a National-level “super project” worth 7.5 billion VND, while simultaneously successfully completing a City-level technology project.

1. National-level “Super Project” Applying AI and Drones In the latest review of national scientific and technological tasks, the project “Research and development of a monitoring, early warning, and rescue support system for drowning risks at beaches” (Code: KC.01/21-30), led by MSc. Nguyen Van Tho, has been officially approved.

This project belongs to the Key Science and Technology Program serving Digital Government and Smart City development. With a total implementation budget of 7.5 billion VND, this is the project with the largest funding scale that The University of Danang has the honor of receiving in this round.

The project focuses on solving urgent safety issues at tourist beaches by integrating the most advanced Industry 4.0 technologies:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Automatically recognizes behaviors, detecting people in distress or entering dangerous waters.

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones): Support aerial monitoring and participate in rapid rescue procedures.

The work not only holds high academic value but also promises to become an important practical solution, contributing to building an image of a safe, civilized, and modern coastal city of Da Nang.

2. Successful Acceptance of City-level Project with Pioneering Technology Parallel to launching the National project, the research capacity of MSc. Nguyen Van Tho and his associates has also been affirmed through local projects.

The Da Nang Department of Science and Technology recently issued Decision No. 395/QD-SKHCN recognizing the research results of the project: “Research and proposal of solutions to integrate and deploy experimental wireless communication technology using lasers to enhance information security for Da Nang city’s metropolitan network.”

The research results were evaluated by the council with impressive technical specifications:

  • Transmission speed: Reached 1Gbps, equivalent to high-speed fiber optic lines.

  • Outstanding advantages: The solution uses Lasers to allow broadband connection establishment without road excavation, not disrupting the urban landscape, and is particularly effective in areas with complex terrain where physical cabling is difficult.

  • Readiness: The technology has been successfully deployed and tested by the research team between buildings in the city.

3. Portrait of a Scientist with Over 20 Years of Dedication Behind these successes lies the extensive experience and dedication of MSc. Nguyen Van Tho. Before choosing VNUK as the place to continue his career, he had over 20 years of activity in the fields of education and engineering.

He has held many important leadership and management positions at prestigious higher education institutions. His “golden record” of achievements is recognized through many noble titles:

  • Creative Labor Badge from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

  • Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training.

  • Many Technical Innovation Awards and Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee.

4. Affirming VNUK’s Research Position The “double” achievement of MSc. Nguyen Van Tho is clear proof of the development orientation of the Institute for Research and Executive Education.

VNUK is not only a dynamic international training environment but also a gathering place for a team of high-level lecturers and scientists, always ready to solve practical social problems. These achievements will be a strong source of inspiration, encouraging the spirit of creative research within the VNUK student community.

The Institute for Research and Executive Education warmly congratulates MSc. Nguyen Van Tho and the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering.
