This course is designed to develop students’ computer skills, in general daily use as well as in academic and professional settings. The skills are transferable so that students can apply them in any career path they chose.
This module introduces students to the basic skills to work with computer in general and Personal Computer (PC) running Windows Operation System and its office applications including:
– Microsoft Office Word
– Microsoft Office Excel
– Microsoft Office PowerPoints

The module also introduces students to VNUK’s emails (Gmail), Google Classroom, EndNote X7 for reference, and other popular internet applications. Student after the course will also have basic understanding of safety and security to protect themselves from scam, phishing and other
types of fraud. Assessment will be delivered in Group Projects and Final Exam. There will also be practices each tutorial session after the lecture for student to practice and receive feedback on the next session. The aggregated marks will provide the continuous assessment element of the module. By the end of the semester, students will be able to knowledge in the course to perform common tasks in computers.

Overall Course Objective: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

Ability to navigate around Windows application, Network application, using free applications on the internet to work individually or work in team.
Ability to properly use VNUK’s emails, Google Classroom and other popular internet applications.

Have a basic understanding of safety and security to protect themselves from scam and phishing.

Ability to use basic & immediate level function of Words 2010 including but not limited to:

a. Navigating & Customizing basic interface
b. Formatting Contents
c. Page Setup / Header & Footer
d. Adding, formatting graphics, images & symbols
e. Adding references, hyperlink, footnotes, Table of Contents
f. Proofreading, Autocorrect, Track Changes & Comment

Ability to use basic & immediate level function of Excel 2010 including but not limited to:

a. Navigating & Customizing basic interface
b. Work sheet basic formatting and printing
c. Modifying & formatting Columns, Rows & Cells
d. Create simple formula & cell references
e. Applying basic and advance functions
f. Analyzing, Organizing and Visually presenting data in chart, graphs and others
Ability to use basic & immediate level function of PowerPoint 2010 including but not limited to:

a. Navigating & Customizing basic interface
b. Formatting contents, themes, Image
c. Applying Effects and Transition
d. Formatting List, Indent, WordArt & Shapes
e. Hyperlink and Action Buttons
f. Working with Tables, Charts
g. Reviewing, Recording and Other Advance Presentation Options

Ability to use EndnoteX7 in report to refer & avoid plagiarism including:

a. Setting up new library
b. Connecting to a database
c. Searching the database
d. Import references into library automatically or manually
e. Format bibliography

f. Changing reference styles
g. Creating groups to organize research
h. Sharing research references for group work
Ability to work in a team project & presents ideas.
