VINIF Fund of Vingroup Group: Research Projects from Danang University Contribute Actively to the Development of Science, Technology, and Innovation

Recently, on July 26–27, at the conference summarizing the 5-year journey of the Vingroup Innovation Fund (VINIF), research projects from teams at Danang University (DNU) were recognized and evaluated as having achieved positive results, contributing to the development of science, technology (S&T), and innovation.

This event attracted scientists, experts, and policymakers involved in the development of S&T and innovation across universities and research institutes nationwide.

Prof. Vũ Hà Văn, Scientific Director of VINIF, presented the Completion Certificate for the project VINIF.2019.DA06 to the research team from Danang University

With VINIF’s meaningful and practical support, demonstrating its social responsibility, many research projects and works by scientists have had the opportunity to receive additional resources for implementation—turning ideas, solutions, and useful products into reality. These outputs serve the needs of socio-economic development, ensure national defense and security for localities and businesses, contribute to regional and national development, and especially support education, training, and the advancement of science and technology.

The project “Intelligent Optical Information for Ultra-Large Data Networks” (Code: VINIF.2019.DA06), led by the University of Technology – DNU, with Project Leaders Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Tấn Hưng and Dr. Lê Thái Sơn, has been officially recognized as completed (Decision No. 1606/2022/QĐ-VNCSLL-VINIF).

The objective of Project VINIF.2019.DA06 was to develop an intelligent optical information system capable of self-detecting and compensating for factors that degrade system quality, such as linear and nonlinear signals, without measuring the channel state. The system is designed to adapt to transmission channel conditions in ultra-large data networks by selecting and identifying suitable channel parameters to enhance quality, capacity, number of users, and spectral efficiency. It also monitors and controls transmission channel and network parameters in real-time to predict network errors, congestion, and manage network operations.

In addition to the results and research objectives officially recognized as completed, the project has produced six publications in prestigious international journals (Q1) and one paper presented at an A*-ranked conference, among which one paper received the “Best Paper Award.”

Notably, through the project’s implementation, one intellectual property patent has been granted by the United States (for more information, see here); three additional patents have been accepted for filing, and the project has supported the training of three doctoral students.

Two other projects by research groups at Danang University (DNU) have completed their content and are now undergoing final evaluation:

Project “Application of Artificial Intelligence for Early Forecasting of Building Energy Consumption Towards Sustainable Development” (Code: VINIF.2019.DA05), led by the University of Science and Technology – DNU, with Dr. Ngô Ngọc Tri as Principal Investigator.

Project “Development of New Smart Electrochromic Windows for Energy-Saving Applications in Buildings and Heat-Shielding on Car Windows” (Code: VINIF.2020.DA20), led by the Vietnam-UK Institute for Research and Training (VNUK), DNU, with Dr. Lê Hoàng Sinh as Principal Investigator.

The VNUK research group’s project has published related results in prestigious international journals (Q1), has had two domestic intellectual property applications accepted, and produced model products of multi-colored glass for vehicles and buildings.

The presence of DNU research groups at the event contributed to enhancing the prestige and position of Danang University in national science and technology activities.

The project “High-Frequency Big Data Analysis in Smart Manufacturing Industry” (Code: VINIF.2020.DA19), led by the University of Science and Technology – DNU, with Dr. Nguyễn Thị Phương Quyên and Dr. Phan Nguyễn Kỳ Phúc as Principal Investigators, is also being actively implemented according to the required schedule and progress.

These projects were selected through a rigorous and strict scientific evaluation process conducted by VINIF councils and experts, and have received funding support from the VINIF Innovation Fund.

Contributing to the creation of a scientific research culture, meeting international standards, and forming a generation of young scientists for the country

According to Prof. Vũ Hà Văn – Scientific Director of the VINIF Fund, Vingroup Group, VINIF’s support aims to help build a culture of innovative and honest scientific research that meets international standards, and to nurture a generation of young scientists for the country who are responsible and contribute to society. This serves as a foundation for creating new milestones and greater achievements for the continued development of science and technology in Vietnam.
