    10 Key Milestones and Highlights of the University of Danang in 2023

    1. Leadership Structure of University of Danang and Its Member Units Consolidated

    The Ministry of Education and Training issued a decision reappointing Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu as Director of University of Danang for the 2021-2026 term.

    Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son handed over the reappointment decision.

    The University Council passed resolutions to extend the terms/reappoint Vice Directors: Associate Professors Le Quang Son, Le Thanh Bac, and Nguyen Manh Toan.

    The leadership of University of Danang handed over the resolution of the University Council extending the terms/reappointing the Vice Directors: Le Quang Son, Le Thanh Bac, and Nguyen Manh Toan.

    Leadership teams of member universities were completed, including new rectors for University of Technology (Nguyen Huu Hieu), University of Economics (Le Van Huy), and University of Education (Vo Van Minh), ensuring smooth generational handover with transparent and democratic personnel work.

    2. Development Plan to Build University of Danang into a National University Accelerated

    The government issued Action Program No.168/NQ-CP implementing Resolution 26-NQ/TW of the Party Central Committee on socio-economic development and national security for the North Central and Central Coastal region until 2030 with vision to 2045.

    Prime Minister approved the urban planning of Danang city (2021-2030, vision to 2050).

    The Ministry of Education included University of Danang’s development into a national university in the education network planning until 2050.

    Great effort and strong determination to realize the aspiration of developing the University of Danang into a National University

    Several provincial party committees (Danang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum) supported this policy.

    University of Danang has issued and actively implemented its Strategic Development Plan towards 2030 and 2045, providing solid political and legal basis to realize this important mission.

    3. Continues to be a Prestigious Address Nationwide in Training High-Quality Human Resources

    Faculty capacity strengthened with 19 more lecturers promoted to Associate Professor (double compared to 2022); over 46% of lecturers hold doctoral degrees (University of Technology reaches 74.8%).

    The number of staff and lecturers qualified as Associate Professors doubled compared to 2022; the proportion of lecturers holding a Ph.D. degree exceeded 46%

    Quality of training improved with 47 new programs accredited to national and international standards, increasing total accredited programs to 95 (nearly double compared to 2022).

    University of Technology completed the second cycle of international accreditation by HCERES; University of Technical Education achieved national quality standards (first cycle).

    An additional 47 training programs were accredited, meeting national and international standards; The University of Science and Technology – University of Danang successfully completed the HCERES accreditation for the 2nd cycle.

    The 2023 enrollment campaign successfully recruited 14,732 new students with relatively high entry scores, including many top-scoring programs nationwide.

    Member universities proactively opened new training fields such as Artificial Intelligence (Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology), Digital Marketing and English-taught courses (University of Economics), Nanotechnology (Vietnam-UK Research Institute), Medical Laboratory Technology (Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy).

    DHDN continues to be a “trusted destination” of choice for students and their parents.

    4. International Reputation of University of Danang Continues to Rise

    University of Danang is the venue for many prestigious international events and seminars, attracting leading experts such as Nobel Laureate in Physics (1999) Prof. Gerard ’t Hooft, who visited and exchanged with faculty, students, and high school students.

    Successfully organized a series of seminars with Ulysseus European University Alliance gathering nearly 100 international scientists and experts.

    Welcomed and cooperated with leaders of international organizations including Prof. Slim Khalbous – Director General of the Francophonie University Agency (AUF), and Mr. Julien Guerrier – new Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam.

    Invited Professor Gerard ’t Hooft, Nobel Prize in Physics (1999), to visit and engage in scientific exchange with faculty, students, and high school students.

    Successfully organized a series of workshops gathering nearly 100 international scientists and experts from the European University Alliance Ulysseus.

    The University of Danang has signed and established comprehensive cooperation agreements with Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (formerly Vietnam National University Hanoi).

    Hosted and successfully co-organized the “High-Quality Human Resource Training Workshop in the Semiconductor Industry” (attended by the Minister of Education and Training, the Secretary of Da Nang City Party Committee, and hundreds of leaders, scientists, and experts from universities and enterprises), signed cooperation agreements, and participated in the Alliance of Leading Universities pioneering in high-quality human resource training to contribute to the development of the Semiconductor Industry;

    1. The University of Danang as a “trusted scientific address” closely connected with ministries, sectors, and localities

    The University of Danang has strengthened connections with ministries, central agencies, promoting the role of intellectuals in summarizing, proposing resolutions, policy development, and policy advocacy;

    Implemented over 200 science and technology projects, including 08 national-level projects, 25 ministerial-level projects, and 07 local-level projects; published more than 500 articles in prestigious journals (WoS/Scopus). Hosted and co-organized many scientific conferences contributing to regional and national development.

    Hosted and successfully organized the conference and established the Alliance of pioneering universities training high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry.

    7. University of Danang students achieve outstanding results in major national and international competitions

    Students of the University of Danang won the championship at the ICPC Vietnam Programming Contest 2023 and had the honor to represent Vietnam at the ICPC Asia Contest, winning a Silver Medal (in Huế) and a Bronze Medal (in Indonesia); they also won the championship in the men’s basketball category at the 2023 National Student Basketball Championship; and the individual male champion title at the 7th World Vovinam Championship 2023.

    Students of the University of Danang won 2 First Prizes, 7 Second Prizes, and 6 Third Prizes in the 2023 Science and Technology Awards for students in higher education institutions. They also secured First Prizes in competitions such as:

    • “Innovation and Startup Challenge – IEC 2023,”

    • “Startup Launchpad” by the Dariu Foundation (Switzerland),

    • “Innovative Ideas for a Plastic-Free Ocean” by UNESCO,

    • “National Green Architecture Award 2023,”

    • and were the 2nd Runner-up at the Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 competition.

    Students achieved outstanding results in major national and international competitions.
    1. Successfully organized the 2023 University-Business Cooperation Conference

    For the first time, the University of Danang organized the regional-level “University-Business Cooperation Conference 2023.” Building on this milestone, member universities have continued to strengthen and focus on connecting and cooperating with reputable enterprises. This collaboration has created more opportunities for students to intern, find jobs, and receive scholarships; additionally, it has supplemented resources to support training and scientific research, exemplified by:

    Signed cooperation agreements with reputable enterprises at the University-Business Cooperation Conference (the first time held at the regional university level).

    • The University of Technology partnered with ABB Vietnam and received sponsorship for a Robot Station and simulation software package valued at 16 billion VND.

    • The University of Economics collaborated with Military Bank (MB) to develop a “Digital Banking Space.”

    • The University of Technical Education and the University of Information Technology and Communication Vietnam-Korea partnered with Nam Long Group to invest in digital technology practice equipment and semiconductor technology.

    The member universities have strengthened effective cooperation, gaining additional resources from enterprises that accompany them in training high-quality human resources.
    1. Loan Agreement for the ODA Project from the World Bank Signed

    The University of Danang has signed a loan agreement to borrow ODA funds from the World Bank (with 10% authorized by the Ministry of Finance to the Vietnam Development Bank for on-lending) for Subproject 1, which involves constructing technical infrastructure and essential facilities for the University Urban Area (located at Hòa Quý-Điện Ngọc). This is an important and milestone result that enables the continuation of subsequent tasks and phases of the University Urban Area construction project (at Hòa Quý-Điện Ngọc).

    The on-lending loan agreement for foreign capital under Subproject 1 is an important milestone that enables the implementation of the next phase of the ODA Project.

    Up to now, the University of Danang has basically completed the site clearance project for 40 hectares in the Da Nang area and has been actively coordinating with ministries, sectors, and localities to propose and prioritize completing the site clearance work for the remaining 30 hectares in Da Nang as well as the area in Quang Nam; preparations are underway to soon commence construction of technical infrastructure and essential works funded by the ODA loan.

    10. The 6th Congress of the University of Danang Trade Union was successfully held

    This important event for the Trade Union organization and staff, civil servants, and workers (CBVC-NLĐ) of the University of Danang gathered 200 delegates representing 2,540 Trade Union members from 8 grassroots Trade Unions and 113 Trade Union branches.

    The 6th Congress of the University of Danang Trade Union was successfully held, contributing to promoting unity and solidarity throughout the entire University of Danang.

    The Congress was organized solemnly, carefully, and successfully; it elected the delegation to attend the 16th Congress of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; and elected the Executive Committee of the University of Danang Trade Union for the 2023–2028 term with 15 members who meet the standards of integrity, ethics, enthusiasm, and high responsibility. This committee will continue to lead the Trade Union to successfully achieve the goals and directions of the new term, cooperating with the administration to promote and strengthen unity and solidarity; take care of, represent, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of staff, civil servants, and workers, aiming toward a “happy school.”
