A one-semester exchange at Kyoto University (Japan) marked a memorable milestone in the academic and personal journey of Nguyen Tri Dung, a student of Biomedical Science (BMS) at the Vietnam–UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), The University of Danang.
Beyond the opportunity to study at one of Asia’s leading universities, the exchange program enabled Dung to broaden his academic perspective, experience an international learning environment, and explore the depth of Japanese culture.

Kyoto Through the Eyes of an Exchange Student
From Dung’s perspective, Kyoto is a city where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony. Its peaceful rhythm of life, narrow streets, ancient temples, traditional festivals, and the warmth of local people left a lasting impression throughout his time there.

“Kyoto is truly a special city. Its calm atmosphere and rich cultural identity allowed me to deeply appreciate how history and traditional values are preserved in everyday life,” Dung shared.
Academic Experience at Kyoto University
The academic environment at Kyoto University offered Dung many new and valuable experiences. Classes emphasize critical thinking, self-directed learning, teamwork, and student initiative. Rather than passively receiving knowledge, students are encouraged to ask questions, engage in discussions, and express their own perspectives.

“Studying at Kyoto University helped me develop greater independence and initiative. I had to prepare thoroughly for each class and actively participate in discussions,” Dung noted.

Multicultural Connections and Memorable Experiences
In addition to academics, Dung’s exchange journey was enriched by meaningful international connections. Multicultural group work, friendships with students from different countries, and shared explorations of Kyoto with peers created unforgettable memories.

Growing Through a Global Journey
Through his exchange semester in Japan, Dung realized that studying abroad is not only about learning in a new environment, but also about expanding one’s mindset, stepping beyond comfort zones, and gaining a deeper understanding of oneself.

Nguyen Tri Dung’s story is a strong reflection of the VNUK-ers Go Global spirit—students who are ready to step into the world, learn from international environments, and grow through multicultural experiences.

In the coming years, VNUK will continue to expand its international academic exchange programs, creating more opportunities for students to access global education and develop comprehensively in an increasingly interconnected world.
