Recently, at the Grand Finale of the international academic competition on data science – WIDS DATATHON++ 2025 – organized by Stanford University, USA, which attracted prestigious universities from 37 countries, students from the Vietnam–UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), University of Danang (UD) excelled by winning one Second Prize and one Third Prize.

The outstanding VNUK students in the Second Prize-winning team include: Vo Long (Class of 2021, Data Science) and Le Minh Tam (Class of 2022, Digital Design and Media).

By taking on the challenge of exploring models to predict brain age using real-world fMRI data and analyzing gender-based neurological differences, the team demonstrated creativity and the ability to apply data science knowledge, contributing to research outcomes that aim to improve public health.

The Third Prize-winning team members include: Dang Cong Khai (Class of 2023, Data Science), Le To Uyen and Nguyen Pham Oanh Oanh (both from Class of 2022, Digital Business Management), and Le Dinh Chinh (Class of 2021, Computer Science and Engineering).

Starting from basic models (Linear Regression, Ridge) and transforming them into a stacked model with automated encoding, the team achieved improved performance. Their ability to integrate and apply knowledge to propose practical solutions helped broaden perspectives on data science and enhanced international engagement.
