With the aim of fostering academic exchange and in-depth scholarly dialogue in the field of Life Sciences, the Department of Science and Technology, Vietnam–UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), University of Danang, is hosting a Biomedical Science Seminar entitled “Development of a Test Strip for Simultaneous Detection of Two Toxins Causing Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease in Shrimp”(Fabrication of Lateral Flow Immunoassay Strip for Rapid Detection of Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease).

The invited speaker for this seminar is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hieu, currently Vice Dean of the Faculty of Biology – Biotechnology, University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

“Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND) in shrimp is caused by the Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain carrying the pVA1 plasmid, which contains the toxin genes toxA and toxB. However, at present, no commercially available test strip for AHPND detection exists, either in Vietnam or globally. In this study, a simple lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) using polyclonal antibodies was developed to rapidly and simultaneously detect both toxA and toxB proteins.” – excerpt from the Scientific Report of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hieu.

Beyond discussions related to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hieu’s research topic, this academic session also offers VNUK students the opportunity to explore applied research issues in both the Vietnamese and global contexts, as well as potential career pathways in the future.
